Position Summary:
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Shop Manager and Fabrication Instructor to oversee the daily operations of our Apprenticeship Program at our Wheeling, Illinois location. In this role, you will provide guidance, supervision, and hands-on instruction to apprentices while ensuring the efficient operation of our fabrication shop.
Responsibilities:
● Manage daily operations of the Gakuto Club Shop, including training, guidance, and supervision of apprentices.
● Assist the Director of the Apprenticeship Program in budget management and equipment purchases.
● Set up, operate, and maintain fabrication equipment, ensuring a safe and efficient work environment.
● Develop and implement safety and training protocols, manage workflow and resources, and assist in apprentice hiring and training.
● Teach classes on various design and fabrication topics, fostering a collaborative and inclusive learning environment.
Experience and Qualifications:
● AWS Welding Certifications; Associate degree and/or Bachelor’s degree required.
● 3-5 years of experience managing a shop/makerspace environment with supervisory duties.
● Comprehensive background in engineering, manufacturing, or design and prototyping.
● Experience with modern ERP systems and shop equipment maintenance.
● Strong fabrication skills, including expertise in welding, metalworking, and CNC milling.
● Exceptional teaching, mentoring, and communication skills.

Physical Requirements:
● Engage in activities such as standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
● Light to moderate lifting and exposure to temperature changes may occur.
● Occasional sitting, squatting, climbing, and exposure to dust and fumes.
